Default Painting Niches?

I just moved into a new home, and it has a lot of niches. I love the way they make the house look, but I want to add some depth to the room. I would like to paint the inside of the niches, but I am having trouble picking a color. I like dark, vibrant colors, but if the color is too dark, the niche will look too dark. Does anyone have any advice?

What are the colors of the rest of your house? I would probably go with a color that was a shade or two darker than whatever colors are in the rest of your house or at least ones that match. It's hard to say really without knowing what your house and the niches look like, but when I think of dark, vibrant colors, I think of maroons and darker reds, maybe even deep purples.

Personally I would always go for lighter shades if painting niches. Pastel colours as well. Also try not to have anything else in the niches as this will give the opposite effect to what you want.
