I love it that I don't know if I'm spelling that correctly, but everyone knows what I mean. How can you tell if you have it in your house without calling an inspector? My friends have a house that was built before 1950 and they're concerned.
Well, if nothing has been replaced in the home, you can almost guarantee that there is asbestos in that house. Asbestos was commonly used well after the 50's. They really do need to contact an inspector to asses where the asbestos is and what problems it could cause and for the best course of action to take.
Yeah, I guess an inspector will be necessary. It's funny, though, because my friends figure that it's not really an issue because you have to have it inhaled in high quantities, etc.etc. but it still creeps me out.
Definately call an inspector in. My brother-in-law is an environmental engineer who deals with stuff like this. Lots of walls, floor tiles and everything have it in.
Yes there is no definate way to tell other than by having some professional take a look. Although asbestos can be found in many areas of homes it is only the dust particles being inhaled that is really dangerous to your health.
As far as I know, the only way to find out is through an inspector. Be ready for lots of expense if you do hire an inspector, and he/she finds that it is asbestos.
