Default Burn Hole or Paint Spatter on Carpet

Hi,
Sometimes we have little accidents on our carpet that are
very very small but still noticeable. Maybe a burn mark,
drop of asphalt, or even a little glob of dried paint.

Take a sharp razor and shave the carpet a little bit in a
random motion around the ugly part. I use my razor knife
and kind of hold up on the damaged area and score a little
bit at a time from the area.

Next thing you know, you dont notice the defect.

I actually learned this from a job I had cleaning, prepping
brand new condos right after they were built. The carpet
was brand new but things can happen while the rest of
the building is being done and unfortunately, the carpet
has already been put in place.

Thanks for the tip, We're planning on moving soon and have a few paint splatters on the carpeting. Ironically enough, the splatters were caused by professional painters.

Well, paint splatters can be cleaned off if you have colorfast carpeting. But the trimming of the carpet fiber is a very good idea too. Another great idea is to remove the patch of damaged carpet and cut a piece of the spare length of carpet you saved to put in the hole I always keep a decent scrap of carpeting for patching.

That's actually a really great tip. I was very lucky this last time as when I was painting, I was also removing the carpet from the room, so I painted first and didn't care. My brother though, has just bought a new house and spattered paint, so I'll pass this along to him. Thanks!

Thanks for the tips. I wouldn't have thought to do that. But, my carpet is dark, so I guess unless it was white paint, it probably wouldn't be noticeable anyhow. I'll file that for future reference.
