Default Creaky stairs.

One of the steps on my staircase - wooden creaks - and creaks. I have been told to apply wax, to polish it - but nothing seems to work. The previous owner says that it has always creaked - but I am sure there is a simple solution. Can anyone help us find it ?

It may be that the wood of the step can be taken from the stairs if it has been nailed on. If this is the case take it off and reapply with wood glue and new nails once you have sanded the two areas of wood to be joined.

If you can get to the bottom side of the stairs, you can stop this problem easily. The problem is most likely cause by the step board moving a little when you step on it. Grab a couple small boards to reinforce that step and screw them from the underneath side.
