Default Laying Linoleum Tiles on Wood Floors

A friend of mine recently bought an older home, a 1940's bungalow. In the kitchen, the previous owners had used a linoleum rug that was laid down and then nailed along the perimeter into an unfinished wood floor.

My friend wants to replace the linoleum rug, but he does not want to lay down another rug. He wants to lay down linoleum tiles instead. Personally, I would finish the floors and seal them - but then I love wood floors anyway.

The floor is pretty level, so that is not a problem. But I have zero experience in laying linoleum tile - can somebody give me a few pointers?

We put down self-stick vinyl tiles - probably similar to linoleum tiles - in our kitchen. It was horrible easy. You'd have to take up the linoleum and make sure the wood floor is smooth and perfectly clean. Then, what we did was find the center of the room and ran a string from one side to the other to square the tiles in the room - so they weren't crooked. Lining up the tiles with the string, we just started sticking them down. At the edges, we had to cut the tiles with a really sharp tile knife. No problems and it looks great.
